Sounds Associated With Horror

Film uses more than just visual effects to create suspence and certain emotions. The audio has become very important in movies and especially the Horror genre. Horror create some of the most iconic sound effects used in the film industry and they use them to great effect, to cause tension and nail-biting, pillow-squeezing, white-knuckle scenarios.

The key to creating tension and causing scary moments in horror movies is the background music which have to signify that something bad is going to happen to keep the audience on the edge of their seats or peeking behind the cushions, this feeling of not wanting to watch but having to is what the horror genre is all about

This sound could be used as a jumpscare to create a loud noise and terrify the audience.

Sounds that are included in other film genres are sometimes modified to fit in to the horror genre. for example, a laugh like this is clearly modified to sound demonic and scary.

Sounds we here in real life are even scary if used appropriately in horror.
